Abha Dawesar: Life in the "digital now"

The main topic of this speech is about the integration of the 'digital now.'  Digital now is a concept is immersion of having technology in our life as important as having food and shelter.  Catastrophic events such as her having been lived through "Hurricane Sandy" that the nature is stronger than the technology the humans can ever make but such events will have not stop our current generation of having the need to be plugged in, by going to the nearest available plug to connect to "Twitter, Facebook, and etc."

This digital now distorts time by archiving every moments of time and the "now" concept is a farce because time will always be a few moments ahead regards of how we want to savor it.  What ends up happening with the digital now is looking back at the past on Twitter, on Facebook and etc., instead of living at the moment.  She mentions that "Time is attention and that time and attention is one in the same."  That there is hope and regain our completeness of self and choose to take time back by not plugging and enjoying the time with the environment around you.

The speech was every engaging and her pace very subtle with pauses that allow her audience to soak in and think about their our lives.  She presented the problem of the 'digital now' but also presented a solution on how we can solve but going outside enjoying nature and the people around you with our digital devices.  Overall I would recommend to take what she mentions on this speech to heart and learn to apply it on our lives.

    1. I watched it four times before I blogged it and I even showed it to some of my friends. All are in agreement that we spend to much time being online, whether social media, emails and etc.

  2. Great post Chester, I actually watched this video as well and you made some good points on your personal view. I also think we all are too plugged into the digital life and don't take enough time to appreciate life around us.

    1. Just imagine a week or two with access to something that is not wired. I bet that can change someones life drastically.

  4. Interesting perspective of social media not 'living in the now'. Most people think that by posting that they are current. This is mostly sharing.

Yet, what about those that are actively engaged with others currently, wether that it be in texting, video, or photos in a real time connection?

    1. In my opinion, texting, video, or photos in a real time connection is not real time because it does not have the face to face contact when you are having a conversation when the person is in front of you. With video, has to do with connections and frame rates (FPS) that has a time delay. I believe the main point to this video is to take time to unplug and experience life first had without an electronic device
